Harvesting & game check

After taking a wild turkey, hunters must go through the game check procedure. When killing a deer, the process must be finished and verified by midday the following day or by 11:30 p.m. on the last day of the season. The game must be marked once the shooter leaves it unsupervised or brings it to a home or interim accommodation; the game check procedure can be finished before transporting it.

Tagging

You must record the kill’s date, time, and county on the permit or tag after taking it. The Division of Wildlife’s smartphone programme allows for this. Exempt proprietors must create a tag with their name, the date, the time, and the county of the slaughter. The finished permit, tag, or proof number must be affixed and kept with the game at all times once the shooter leaves unsupervised.

Game Check

Must finish the game check procedure and get a validation number after capturing. Call 1-877-TAG-IT-OH, go to ohiogamecheck.com website, use the HuntFish OH smartphone app, go to a licensed sales agent’s location, or dial 1-866-703-1928 for excluded landowner game check to do this. The pursuer must enter the 10-digit permission number and respond to a sequence of questions to obtain a validation code, which must be affixed to the harvest. Before cutting or preparing the body, this procedure must be finished.

Hunting Regulations

  • Baiting birds is banned. Primed areas remain primed for ten days after bait removal. While chasing, you cannot use live decoys or artificial calling devices. Should avoid killing poultry in trees.
  • Can only carry one hunting tool, while turkey hunting and hidden firearm licenses have rules. Successful hunters can help fellow sportsman with a hunting license, a turkey pass, and no hunting implements widely used to slay wild animals.
  • In order to help other hunters or control turkey numbers, landowners who are not required to have a hunting license or permission must get a permit.
  • To hunt in the fall, unless they are exempt, people need to have a fall turkey pass and a license. One male or female turkey may be harvested throughout the allotted period, which runs from 30 minutes before dawn to dark, with an 11:30 p.m. deadline. Only trained animals are allowed to assist in the fall harvest.
  • Unless excused, young hunters need a hunting license and permit. Youth season starts 30 minutes before dawn and ends at dusk in chosen areas.
  • A shotgun with a maximum of ten gauge using shot, including muzzle-loading firearms, is legal for fall and spring wild turkey hunting. Can also use compound and recurve bows with a minimum draw weight of 40 pounds. The arrow tip must have two cutting sides and a 3/4-inch girth. Expandable and motorized broadheads are permitted. Crossbows are legal with a 75-pound draw weight and the same arrow tip standards as bows.
